Description
Beginner Hockey – Shinny of Champions
SOC’s Beginner Hockey is an 11-week introductory program built for adults with zero hockey experience. Whether you’ve never skated or never held a stick, this course is your step-by-step guide into the sport — with a supportive, team-first vibe from day one.
You’ll be coached by experienced instructors who know how to break things down simply and keep things fun. The program starts with skating fundamentals and gradually layers in stick skills, hockey rules, positioning, and gameplay. It all leads up to three full exhibition games with real referees and game-day energy.
Perfect for total beginners, returning players, or anyone who’s always wanted to give hockey a shot.
What You’ll Learn
Session 1: Balance
Hockey stance, falling and getting up, two-foot jumps — everything to build a solid foundation on the ice.
Session 2: Stopping
Learn how to stop using beginner-friendly techniques like the half snowplow and two-foot stop, so you can skate with control and confidence.
Session 3: Puck Handling & Passing
We add pucks! Practice basic stickhandling and passing, then apply your skills in fun, coach-led mini games.
Session 4: Shooting & Striding
Develop your stride and shot mechanics while gaining confidence skating with one or two hands on your stick.
Session 5: Skating with the Puck
Work on quick starts, tight turns, and 1-on-1 battles as you combine puck control with real-game movement.
Session 6: The Boards & Rules
Learn how to retrieve pucks along the boards, take zone faceoffs, and play a structured mini scrimmage. This session also introduces the rules of hockey like offsides, icing, and positioning.
Session 7: Forechecking & Positioning
Intro to team play — including the 2-1-2 forecheck — and where to be in each zone. Includes an extended coached scrimmage.
Session 8: Backward Skating
Build backward skating fundamentals and run through a full warm-up before another coached scrimmage.
Game 1–3: Exhibition Games
Put it all together in three real games with referees, timekeepers, and full beginner teams. Play like it’s game night — because it is.
