Scott & his team of talented NAIT OOKs players are so skilled. They bring just the right combination of challenge & support with skill development, to help newer & more seasoned players improve. They are all so encouraging & non-judgmental. That allows me to focus on my own skill development & not compare myself to others. Being so new to playing hockey, I really appreciate his consistently kind approach. I’m already signed up for his power skating sessions!”

“The skills learned were very specific and helpful such as which parts of the blade to use with forwards and backwards skating. Scott and his player were very good and patient with newer skaters. I appreciated how they made corrections with individual skaters one on one.”

Which level is right for you?
If you can do most of the things listed under a level, you’re likely ready for it. When in doubt, start lower — you’ll get more out of it.
Foundation
Powerskating 1.0
You should be able to…
  • Skate forward with basic control and a hockey stance
  • Attempt a two-foot or snowplow stop
  • Have been exposed to basic backward skating
  • Comfortable falling and getting back up without assistance
  • Completed Beginner Hockey 1.0 or have equivalent ice time
Developing
Powerskating 2.0
You should be able to…
  • Glide comfortably in a solid hockey stance without feeling off balance
  • Generate a full forward stride while staying balanced on the power leg — not just shuffling down the ice
  • Execute moderate tight turns and get onto the outside edge
  • Perform forward crossovers with control
  • Skate backward with basic control
  • Pivot forward to backward and backward to forward without completely losing momentum
Advanced
Powerskating 3.0
You should be able to…
  • Skate with speed and confidence across all 2.0 skills
  • Chain stops and starts together without losing momentum
  • Transition smoothly between forward and backward at speed
  • Handle a puck while skating
  • Ready to learn backward crossovers and advanced combinations
  • Find your soft edge — light blade pressure, key to learning punch turns

Lesson plans are subject to change based on the group’s overall progression. Each session begins with a brief review of the previous lesson.

Not sure which level is right for you?

Each program is designed for a specific skill range — coaches keep the class moving at the right pace for the group. When in doubt, starting at a lower level is always the better call. We’re happy to help you figure out where you fit.
