SHINNY OF CHAMPIONS (SOC)
CODE OF CONDUCT – 2026

1. Purpose
Shinny of Champions (SOC) is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment across all programs and events, including:
- Hockey games and instructional programs
- Tournaments
- Community events and BBQs
- Social gatherings
- Volunteer activities
- Online groups and communications
This Code applies to all participants, including players, goalies, instructors, referees, volunteers, staff, sponsors, and spectators.
Participation in any SOC activity means you agree to follow this Code.
Definitions
SOC Organizer means any Shinny of Champions director, program coordinator, event lead, referee, or designated volunteer acting in an organizational capacity.
2. Core Standards
All participants must:
- Treat others with dignity and respect
- Act in a sportsmanlike and responsible manner
- Follow safety instructions and event rules
- Respect referees, instructors, SOC Organizers, and venue staff
- Contribute to a positive community atmosphere
SOC is competitive — but never hostile.
3. Safe & Fair Play (On-Ice)
Participants must:
- Avoid reckless, aggressive, or intentionally dangerous play
- Respect the rules of the game and referee decisions
- Adjust intensity appropriately in beginner or mixed-skill environments
- Stop play if someone is injured
Fighting, intentional harm, or repeated unsafe behaviour will not be tolerated.
4. Bullying, Harassment & Discrimination – Zero Tolerance
SOC has zero tolerance for:
- Bullying or intimidation
- Verbal abuse or threats
- Discrimination based on gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or background
- Sexual harassment or unwanted advances
- Unwanted physical contact
- Sexually suggestive comments or gestures
- Offensive jokes or slurs
- Online harassment in SOC-related chats or social media
- Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern
This policy applies:
- On the ice
- In locker rooms
- At tournaments and events
- At social gatherings connected to SOC
- In digital communications related to SOC
If behaviour makes someone feel unsafe, targeted, or uncomfortable, it will be taken seriously.
5. Alcohol & Substance Expectations
- No participation while impaired.
- Alcohol, where permitted at social events, must be consumed responsibly.
- Intoxication that affects safety or conduct may result in removal.
- SOC’s responsibility for participant behaviour ends when a sanctioned event concludes. Participants are solely responsible for their conduct after leaving an SOC event.
6. Reporting Concerns
Participants are encouraged to report concerns to any SOC Organizer, or by email at admin@shinnyofchampions.com.
Reports will be handled:
- Discreetly
- Seriously
- Without retaliation
Retaliation for reporting concerns is itself a violation of this Code.
SOC reserves the right to investigate concerns before or after taking action.
This Code of Conduct may be updated from time to time. Participants will be notified of material changes.
7. Disciplinary Authority
Shinny of Champions reserves the absolute right, at its sole discretion, to:
- Refuse registration
- Limit participation
- Remove a participant from an event
- Suspend participation
- Permanently revoke participation privileges
Disciplinary action may occur without refund where necessary to protect the safety, integrity, or culture of SOC.
8. Community Responsibility
Every participant shares responsibility for protecting the SOC culture.
We are competitive. We are inclusive. We are respectful. We are SOC.
